Score one for the feline...

The Schmindle Muddle of the Osama Bin Laden Takedown

I don't normally ask for much praise, but I truly called this one in my original post on the subject.

Do I really need to say anything else? ;)

Getting Bin Laden

The Mission to Get Bin Laden (The New Yorker)

I know that many people are reading this article with great joy, but I'd like to go on record with my belief that there's something seriously wrong with it.

As a writer, I'm always conscious of "point of view," aka who is aware of what. SEALs won't know what Obama said in the situation room. The President will have access to details written in the SEALs' reports, but many of the details from the SEALs briefings would have to come from someone who was there. And there are too many details.

In short, this article had to either have multiple high-level sources, come from horrific intelligence leaks or be largely a work of fiction. I'm leaning toward it being a White House sourced work of fiction, designed to capitalize on the President's role in the mission. I can't see SEALs releasing such detail about their training, the operation and their operational histories and emotions. Although if it's the White House, what idiot reports the source of the Situation Room's sandwich tray?

Read the article, but with skepticism. Something's rotten in the District of Columbia.
